On Saturday people from far and wide came to the cross at King’s Camp. They came to be a part of the dedication of the Cross at the Oaks amphitheater.

The Cross at the Oaks amphitheater is the latest addition to the King’s Camp campus. It is a beautiful space where kids at camp and adults at retreats can worship, learn and encounter Jesus. The amphitheater is surrounded by God’s glory, carved into the bank of McVae Lake with a backdrop of the most beautiful Northeast Louisiana sunsets.

The amphitheater was primarily funded by the Oaks of Righteousness campaign where oak trees were purchased honoring our founders and others in the King’s Camp family. The names of those honored were called out in the dedication and a bell rung in their honor. Those present joined in a dedication liturgy with the response, “We dedicate this place. Come Holy Spirit.”

The amphitheater, which can hold up to 300 guests, was thoughtfully and intentionally designed by Nolan Clark, King’s Camp CEO, and civil engineer Cullen Clark, a long-time camper and counselor.

  • Its eastern aisle lines up with the cross and the sun’s setting point on the spring and fall equinox.

  • Its middle aisle lines up with the cross and the sun’s setting point on the winter solstice.

  • The western aisle lines up through the center of the cross and is true North and South.

  • The amphitheater enjoys sunsets year-round with 75% of them being over the lake.

  • The cross is 20 ft tall and weighs 3,500 lbs. It was created and constructed by Brice Gillikin of Rimcor and his team. It is crafted from one solid cypress log.

  • The iron framing the cross was crafted from an old iron bridge donated by the Green Family. The cross has its own redemptive story and represents Jesus as the bridge reconnecting and reconciling us to God.

  • Every word of Chapter 61 of Isaiah—the Oaks of Righteousness passage of God’s restorative power to bring hope and healing—is written on the concrete foundations from top to bottom.

The Cross at the Oaks began with a vision five years ago. We celebrate the completion of the project and dedicate it to the glory and service of the Lord. We trust God’s powerful presence will use this space to draw, inspire, and transform lives for decades to come. More pics to come.

Come to the Cross

The Oaks of Righteousness Project

The Cross at the Oaks is a part of our Oaks of Righteousness project that began in 2020 as a legacy project to remember our history and honor those Oaks of Righteousness, upon whose shoulders we stand. We are so very grateful for God's faithfulness and the community of people that are involved in making this a reality...the faith and commitment of our founders and leaders before us; the vision of Nolan Clark to create a space of worship to honor God in their memory; Jay Gillikin and Rimcor Inc for their expertise in construction; Cullen Clark and S.E. Huey Co for their civil engineering consulting and construction plans; Cole Sims and Wilderness Turf Farms for donating the luscious turf; architect An Le in her visual renderings; and the many generous people who have donated time, effort, and money to this project to honor God and the memory of loved ones. The heart of this endeavor is rooted in the ministry of Jesus as he described it in Luke 4:18-19, reading from the scroll of Isaiah 61. May this be a place of freedom and healing for the Splendor of His Glory for many generations to come!
